What -SE- Means
-SE- is the key-short error on Samsung’s US microwave article: the control reads a keypad button as stuck or shorted, the classic complaint on older over-the-range models.
Common Causes of -SE-
- Liquid or steam reaching the keypad
- A button mechanically stuck or held by debris
- Touch panel membrane failed internally
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Power the microwave off for about 60 seconds. Wipe the keypad dry if any liquid or steam reached it and check that nothing is pressing a button, such as a magnet, sticker or splatter. Restart and test. If -SE- returns with a dry, clear keypad, the touch panel or its membrane needs replacing.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The keypad membrane connects directly to the control board behind the front panel, and that panel is opened by a technician.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
