The induction cooktop shows a small underlined u over the zone. What is it telling me?

Pan detection. Samsung documents the underlined u as the control’s way of saying the cookware on that zone is unsuitable - the wrong material, too small for the zone, or not sitting flat - so the zone will not switch on. Try a pan you know works on induction, centered on the zone; if a known-good pan still triggers the u, the zone’s sensing circuit or the power board beneath it needs testing.

There is a crack in the glass. Can I keep cooking on it if I avoid that zone?

No. With the cooktop switched off at the breaker, stop using every zone until the glass has been replaced. A cracked top lets liquid reach the elements, the wiring and the boards beneath it, and the risk does not depend on which zone the crack runs through. The glass is a replaceable part on Samsung’s radiant and induction models and we quote it before any work begins.

A gas burner keeps clicking even after it has lit. What should I check?

With the burner off and the surface cool, lift the burner cap, dry the cap and the base with a cloth, make sure the cap sits flat with its tabs seated, and check that no spill has reached the igniter electrode beside the burner. Continuous clicking after everything is dry and seated usually means the igniter switch under the knob or the spark module has failed, and either one is a straightforward test for a technician.

Samsung sells gas cooktops under the NA prefix, radiant electric and induction cooktops under NZ, and a new induction line under CC, and because the three technologies share almost no parts, a burner that will not light, an element that stays cold and an induction zone that ignores the pan are three different repairs that happen to look alike from above the glass.

Samsung’s cooktop lineup is split three ways by technology, and the split decides the visit. A gas cooktop depends on burner valves, igniter electrodes and a spark module; a radiant electric cooktop on elements, their infinite switches or electronic controls and a hot-surface indicator; an induction cooktop on coils, power boards and the pan-sensing circuit under the glass, with touch controls that need a dry, clean surface to read a finger reliably. We confirm the type and the model before the first panel comes off.

A cooktop that is partly working – one dead zone, one burner that sparks without catching – is usually a single-part repair once the part is identified, and we test it rather than replace a control board on suspicion. Samsung’s induction pan-detection indicator, the underlined u, is a notice rather than a problem, and it is the most common reason we hear that an induction zone has stopped working when nothing is wrong with the cooktop.
