What HC Means
HC means two different things on the same Laundry Combo depending on which part of the cycle is running, per Samsung’s WD53DBA900H-series service manual: during a wash cycle it is the wash heater error also documented for Samsung’s standalone washers (heater or its sensor problem); during a dry cycle it means the heat pump compressor has overheated, which Samsung’s service documentation ties to the EVA IN and EVA OUT thermistor readings moving outside range. The compressor and its refrigerant circuit are a sealed system, so this second meaning is technician work, not a wash-heater fix.
Common Causes of HC
- Wash heater or its sensor problem (wash-cycle HC)
- Heat pump compressor overheating, EVA IN or EVA OUT thermistor reading out of range (dry-cycle HC)
- Restricted airflow around the heat pump raising compressor temperature
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Turn the Laundry Combo off, wait two to three minutes, and turn it back on before trying again. If HC appeared during a wash cycle, running a cold cycle will usually complete while you wait for service. If HC appeared during a dry cycle, do not keep running dry cycles: an overheated compressor is a sealed refrigerant system problem, and that calls for a technician rather than repeated attempts.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The wash heater sits in the tub on a mains-voltage circuit. The heat pump compressor and its thermistors are part of a sealed refrigerant system; opening either one, or judging which condition caused HC, needs a technician.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
