What HC Means
HC is the high-temperature heater error on Samsung’s US dishwasher article, and Samsung gives it the same steps as the rotary-model 1E: switch the power off at the breaker for thirty seconds, back on, empty the dishwasher, fill the detergent dispenser and start a Normal cycle. It is distinct from HE, the heater error, on the same article, and from HC on a Samsung dryer, which means the drying air is too hot.
Common Causes of HC
- Thermistor reporting an over-temperature
- Heater relay staying on
- Very hot incoming water pushing the tub past its limit
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the dishwasher off at the breaker for thirty seconds and back on, empty it, fill the detergent dispenser and run a Normal cycle. If HC returns, Samsung gives no further owner step; the heater, its relay and the thermistor are tested by a technician under the tub.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The heater is a mains-voltage part under the tub; its relay is on the main board. Neither is an owner check.
