What 88 88 Means
Samsung’s US article defines 88 88 as a communication problem that can occur when power is disrupted while the refrigerator is booting, and files it with 83E, 85E and 86E as a power error. The remedy Samsung gives is the same sixty-second power removal and restart.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With the refrigerator unplugged, or its breaker off, wait sixty seconds so the boards fully discharge, then restore power and let the display come up on its own without pressing anything. If 88 88 stays on the display after that single cycle, do not repeat it; leave the display as it is and book service so the technician can see what the boards are reporting.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If one clean restart does not fix it, the problem is between boards inside the cabinet and needs the wiring and the boards tested, not a further reset.
