What 4C / 4E Means
4C and 4E are the water supply error on Samsung’s US dishwasher article, which points owners to its water supply requirements: pressure between 20 and 120 psi, hot water between 120 and 149 degrees Fahrenheit, a sound supply line and a proper elbow fitting at the inlet. Samsung notes that below 20 psi the fill valve may not shut off properly. On a Samsung washer 4C means water is not entering at all; the dishwasher meaning is about pressure and temperature.
Common Causes of 4C / 4E
- Supply valve under the sink partly closed
- House water pressure below what the fill valve needs
- Hot water reaching the dishwasher too cool
- Inlet valve on the dishwasher failing
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Under the sink, confirm the dishwasher’s supply valve is fully open and that the braided or copper line to it is not kinked. Run the hot tap at the sink and see whether water arrives hot within a minute; a dishwasher on a long run of cold pipe can fill with water too cool for the cycle. If the house pressure is known to be low, or drops when other fixtures run, that is the cause to address. If the supply checks out and 4C persists, the inlet valve on the dishwasher is the next thing a technician tests.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The inlet valve is behind the toe-kick on a live supply line; changing it means the water off and the dishwasher partly out of its cabinet.
