What HC2 Means
HC2 is named on Samsung’s US dryer article as the gas ignition error on gas dryers, listed among the codes Samsung gives only a name and one generic step: power off for two to three minutes, restart, and request service if it returns. It is not part of the HC heating group, which is about air that is too hot.
Common Causes of HC2
- Gas supply valve closed or supply interrupted
- Igniter failed or flame sensor not detecting the flame
- Gas valve coils failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If you smell gas, do not operate the dryer or any switch nearby; leave the room and call the gas utility from outside. With no smell of gas, confirm the gas supply valve behind the dryer is fully open, then power the dryer off for two to three minutes and restart. That is the limit of the owner step. A dryer that tumbles without heat, or shows HC2 again, needs its igniter, flame sensor and gas valve tested by a technician; owners should not work on the gas connection or the burner.

- The burner assembly and gas valve are behind the lower front panel on a live gas connection; any work there is a technician’s job, full stop.
