Samsung Refrigerator 22E and 22C Error Code

What 22E / 22C Means

Samsung’s US article lists 22E and 22C together as the fridge fan error, the fresh-food side counterpart of 21E, and says it can be brought on by running the refrigerator with a door left open too long. This is one of the few refrigerator codes for which Samsung’s own step is a power-off: unplug, leave the doors open for several hours so the fan area thaws, then plug back in.

Common Causes of 22E / 22C

  • Frost built up around the fresh-food fan after a door was left open
  • Fresh-food evaporator fan motor failed or its connector loosened
  • Defrost circuit no longer clearing the fresh-food evaporator

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Because Samsung’s page directs it for this code, a thaw is the owner step: with the refrigerator unplugged and the contents moved to a cooler or another freezer, leave both doors open for a few hours until no frost remains around the vents at the back of the fresh-food section, then plug it in and give it several hours to pull down. If 22E or 22C returns after a full thaw, stop repeating the thaw and book service.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • If a thaw clears the code only for it to come back, the cause is a defrost heater, sensor or fan motor behind the rear liner, which is a technician’s job to reach and test.
  • Running for weeks on a fan that keeps icing lets the fresh-food section drift warm without any clear warning on the display.

FAQ

22E / 22C FAQ

No. Samsung’s article puts both spellings under the one fridge fan error; the letter reflects the control generation, not a different problem.

Samsung says hours, not minutes. The point is to melt frost around the fan, and that takes time with the doors open.
