What AC / AE Means
AC and AE, with their numbered variants and AE3 named as a modem communication error, are listed on Samsung’s US washer article as communication errors between the washer’s boards, in the group for which Samsung gives one generic remedy. The same letters on the dryer article also mean communication, but on the dryer’s own boards.
Common Causes of AC / AE
- Momentary loss of communication after a power dip
- Connector between the display board and main board loose
- Wi-Fi modem problem (AE3)
- Display or main board failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With the washer powered off for two to three minutes so the boards discharge, power it on and restart the cycle. If AE3 is the code and the machine is connected to SmartThings, that is the Wi-Fi modem specifically; a failed modem does not stop the washer washing. A returning AC or AE means a board or a harness between boards, and Samsung’s instruction is to request service.

- The boards and their harness sit behind the panel with mains present; diagnosing which side has failed is a technician’s measurement.
