What CL Means
CL is the Child Lock indicator. Samsung’s US washer article explains that on newer models CL displays when Child Lock is active, the tub holds an unsafe level of water and the door is opened, at which point the washer drains the tub as a safeguard. Samsung’s fix is to power the washer off and on, or to turn Child Lock off.
Common Causes of CL
- Child Lock switched on by a button hold
- Door opened with Child Lock active and water in the tub
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the washer off and on again, or hold the button combination the manual lists for Child Lock until the lock icon goes out. If CL appeared after a child or a curious adult opened the door mid-cycle, expect the drum to have drained and simply restart the cycle. Nothing needs adjusting inside the machine.

- No problem exists; a service visit for CL would be spent pressing two buttons.
