What HC / HE / Hr Means
HC, HE and Hr are named on Samsung’s US washer article as the heater error, in the section of codes Samsung lists with a name and one generic step. A Samsung dryer’s HC means the drying air is too hot, and a Samsung dishwasher splits HC and HE into two different heater codes, so this entry applies to the washer’s internal water heater only.
Common Causes of HC / HE / Hr
- Heater element open or scaled
- Heater relay on the control board failed
- Thermistor reporting an impossible rise
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With the washer powered off for two to three minutes, restore power and restart. If HC appears only on hot or sanitize cycles, running a cold cycle will usually complete while you wait for service, but do not expect the code to fix itself. Samsung’s instruction if it returns is to request service; the heater and its sensor are tested with the machine open.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The heater sits in the bottom of the outer tub on a mains-voltage circuit; replacing it means draining, tilting and working inside the cabinet.
