What SUd / Sd / SUdS Means
SUd, 5UD, Sd, 5d, SUdS and 5Ud5 all mean the same thing on Samsung’s US washer article: the washer has detected too much foam and is pausing to let it settle before carrying on by itself. Samsung states plainly that no service is needed and that the display indicates incorrect use of detergent.
Common Causes of SUd / Sd / SUdS
- Too much detergent for the load
- Detergent that is not a high-efficiency formula
- Residue from earlier over-dosing lifting into foam
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Do nothing to the machine while it pauses; it resumes on its own once the suds subside. Afterwards, run one or two empty cycles with no detergent until no foam appears, which is Samsung’s method for clearing residue, then switch to a high-efficiency detergent used at or below the line on the drawer. Powder, non-HE liquid or a generous pour is the cause almost every time.
