What tE / tC Means
tE and tC are the temperature sensor error on Samsung’s US washer article, listed among the codes for which Samsung gives only a name and a generic restart. On a Samsung dryer tE and tC mean temperature trouble in the drying air, and on a microwave TE means touch communication, so the meaning here is the washer’s alone.

- Thermistor reading open or shorted
- Thermistor connector loose
- Water or machine far below normal temperature
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With the washer powered off for two to three minutes, restore power and restart. If the machine is in an unheated garage in winter, let it come up to room temperature before judging, since a very cold sensor reading can sit outside the expected range. A code that comes back on a machine at normal room temperature is the thermistor or its wiring, which Samsung directs to service.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The thermistor is mounted in the tub or heater assembly at the bottom of the machine, reached with panels off and water drained.
