What tS / tC / tE / tO Means
Samsung’s US dryer article groups tS, t5, tC, tO, t0, tE, tE3, tC5, tCS and the leading-1 forms 1 tC, 1tC5 and 1tCS as temperature errors: an issue with the temperature of the drying air or with the sensors that measure it. Samsung’s correction is to clean the lint screen, the vent system or both. On a Samsung washer tE and tC mean the wash-water thermistor, a different sensor in a different machine.
Common Causes of tS / tC / tE / tO
- Lint screen or exhaust duct restricting airflow
- Thermistor reading open or shorted
- Thermostat tripped after repeated overheating
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With the dryer switched off and cool, pull the lint screen, wash it if it has a film from dryer sheets, and clear the housing beneath it. Then, with the dryer unplugged or its breaker off and pulled forward, disconnect the transition duct and clear it and the wall duct as far as you can reach, checking the outside hood flap opens freely. Reconnect, restore power and run a timed cycle. If the code returns on a clear vent, the thermistor or the high-limit thermostat needs testing.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The thermistor and thermostats sit on the heater housing behind the rear or lower panel, and testing them means the cabinet open and the wiring exposed.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
