What u Means
An underlined u over an induction zone on a Samsung range means the pan-detection circuit does not recognize suitable cookware on that zone - wrong material, too small for the zone, or not sitting flat. Samsung’s article says the zone will not heat and shuts itself off after about a minute if the pan is not corrected.
Common Causes of u
- Pan not induction-compatible (non-magnetic base)
- Pan too small for the zone or set off-center
- Zone’s pan-sensing circuit or power board problem
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Center an induction-compatible pan - one a magnet sticks to - fully on the zone’s marked area, with a flat base making even contact. Try a pan you already know works on another induction zone or appliance. If that known-good pan still shows the underlined u on the same zone, the zone’s sensing circuit or the power board beneath it is the next thing to test.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The power boards and coils sit under the cooktop glass, and reaching them means lifting the cooktop with the range depowered, which is a service job.
