Samsung’s Flex Duo ovens use a removable insulated partition, the Smart Divider, to split one cavity into two that can run at different temperatures. The partition carries a connector that tells the control it is in place, and the control will only run the twin-oven modes when it can confirm that. When it cannot, the display shows -dE- or -dC-, with a dash on each side, and Samsung’s range and wall oven article defines it precisely: the partition is not installed properly. Owners who know dC as the laundry door code go looking at the oven door; the door has its own plain-word message on a Samsung range, which is simply door.
The Slot Samsung Names
Samsung’s article does not say only to reseat the partition; it says which rack position it belongs in. On electric and dual-fuel Flex Duo ranges the partition goes in the third position from the top. On gas Flex Duo ranges it goes in the fourth position from the top. A partition seated one slot up or down engages the rails but not the connector, and the control reports it as not installed. Count the rack positions from the top of the cavity, not the bottom, because the two cavities are not equal in height.
Reseating It
With the oven off and cool, and the door open, slide the partition out completely and look at its front edge and the connector on the cavity wall for anything in the way: a baking sheet resting on a rail, a spill baked onto the guide, a rack in the position the partition needs. Slide it back along the correct rails until it stops with a definite seat and sits level from side to side; a partition that rocks is not home. Close the door and select the mode you want. If you want the whole cavity as one oven, take the partition out entirely and choose the single-oven mode; leaving it in and selecting a full-oven mode, or taking it out and selecting a twin mode, produces the same code because the control has been asked for a mode the partition state does not allow.
When It Stays With the Partition Seated
A -dC- that survives a careful reseat in the correct slot with nothing in the way is telling you about the sensing, not the seating. The connector on the partition or the contact on the cavity wall can be dirty after a self-clean cycle, bent by a rack pushed in at an angle, or worn after years of use. Beyond wiping the contact with a dry cloth once the oven is cool, this is not an owner task: the switch and its wiring run into the oven wall behind the liner, and the range has to be pulled out and isolated to reach them.
Do Not Confuse It With door
Samsung’s article lists door as a separate message meaning the door is not closed, with the instruction to check the door plunger switch and confirm the door closes fully, and to seek service if it continues with the door shut. The two can appear on the same range for different reasons, so read the dashes: a dC framed by dashes is the partition, and the word door is the door.
Booking a Flex Duo Visit
Tell us whether the code appears with the partition in or out, which mode you selected, and whether the oven has recently been through Self Clean. Give the full model code from the label on the frame inside the storage drawer or behind the door. Book a Samsung range repair; on this problem it is usually a short visit, and knowing the slot in advance sometimes makes it no visit at all.
