The range says tESt and nothing heats. What happened?

Demonstration mode. Samsung shows tESt or tE5t on the display when the range has been put into the showroom setting that lights the controls without powering the heating elements, and it is turned on by a button combination that is easy to hit while cleaning the panel. The owner’s manual for your model lists the combination that turns it off; no repair is involved.

I smell gas around the range. What should I do first?

Do not switch any light or appliance on or off, do not light anything, open a window if one is right there, get everyone out of the house and call your gas utility or the emergency number from outside. Only after the gas company has confirmed the supply is safe should the range itself be examined, and at that point the burner valves, the oven safety valve and the connections behind the range are checked with the supply shut.

My Flex Duo oven shows -dC- and will not start. Is the oven failing?

Probably not. On Samsung’s divided ovens -dE- or -dC- means the control cannot confirm the partition is seated properly for the mode that was selected. With the oven off and cool, remove the divider, check that nothing is sitting in its rails, and reseat it fully until it sits level and locks; then choose the single-oven or twin mode that matches whether the partition is in. If the code stays with the partition clearly seated, the sensing switch in the oven wall needs testing.

Samsung’s US ranges are mostly slide-in, sold in gas, electric, induction and a small number of dual-fuel versions, with Flex Duo divided ovens and Air Fry modes across much of the line, and they report problems with C-numbered codes and a few short words - door, bAd LinE, tESt - that Samsung documents on a single support page shared with its wall ovens.

A Samsung range shares one control board between its cooktop and its oven, so a single problem can appear in both places at once, and the cooktop side changes completely with the fuel: gas burners with valves, igniters and a spark module; radiant elements with their switches; or induction coils driven by power boards that must detect a suitable pan before they will heat. The oven side is more consistent across fuels – bake and broil elements or a gas bake igniter and valve, a temperature sensor, a convection fan, a door lock for self-clean and, on Flex Duo models, a removable partition with a switch that tells the control which mode is possible.

Samsung’s range codes are C-numbered – C-10 for the temperature sensor, C-24 for an oven whose temperature is rising abnormally, C-F0 for a communication problem between boards – plus plain-word messages such as door and bAd LinE for a power connection that is not fully seated. The same C- numbering appears on Samsung microwaves with different meanings, so a range code is read from the range article and nowhere else. Samsung also notes that a C-10 shown during self-diagnosis can be ignored if the oven goes on to heat normally, which is worth knowing before booking a visit.

Gas-side work starts with the supply shut and confirmed shut; electric and induction work starts with the breaker off. We test the part a code points at rather than replacing it because the number matches a parts list, and we say plainly when an older freestanding range is closer to replacement than repair.
